First Thursday’s party

I’m starting to write this blog on the 1st of May. Many people might ask themselves why I would specify the date of writing this blog? However, for many Capetonians, tourists, or people who have been here for quite some time, the beginning of a new month has a significant meaning. Being able to turn your calendar page again isn’t the only fun thing to look forward to, because, with every moon that passes, Cape Town organizes what many call the best party ever; First Thursday’s.

Being that it’s the first day of the month, I can tell you that within the next 6 days the streets of the city centre will have transformed into one big open-air party. With music blasting from every corner, people dancing and drinking, making new friends, etc. First Thursday’s almost feels like a community coming together and reuniting every month.

I will participate in my 3th First Thursday’s, which for me will be a bittersweet one since it will also be my last. The fun thing is the fact that there is not a good or a bad way to do it. First Thursday’s is about celebrating everything and everyone, all over Cape Town. you literally don’t need any guidance or planning, but for those of you who are a bit anxious to start this city-wide adventure, this is our usual plan;

Go for dinner with friends. You’ll notice that a lot of places offer 2 for 1’s on Thursday nights, especially for tapas and cocktails. Dinner in the city will also get you in the party mood. After dinner we usually head to Bree street where you can find a 2 for 1 party at La Parada. Upstairs in open air and downstairs in their party basement. This is an amazing starter since entry is free and drinks are not expensive. When the clock hits 12, we usually hit up our UBER and go to Long street. Literally a long street full of bars and clubs, with something for everyone.
