Cape Town Big Band Jazz Festival
Jazz Festival
Founded in 1999 by the late Dennis Barr this festival is a community outreach programme in support of music education in big band jazz for school and college students.
The proceeds from the festival go towards scholarships in a number of programmes such as sponsorship of a music teacher at Manenberg High School for their Steelband Project and many other such programmes.
There have also been a number of musical instruments donated to Athlone Music Academy, York Road Primary School and Eluxolweni Primary School to name but a few.
This festival provides a platform for young musicians to showcase their talent as well as encouraging them to develop their talents further.
Jazz Bands from Cape Town Schools as well as the University of Cape Town (UCT) Big Band will be performing over the 3 day festival.

Ih Cape Town hosts Foreign Film Awards
Last week Ih Cape Town held its very own “Foreign Film Awards”. A night filled with glamour and good food. Oscars were given to the best class project, best leading actor and best leading actress. Everyone was asked to bring their favourite traditional dish and tell us what makes it special. So we dined on foods from around the world and enjoyed some top quality home made videos.

Good Food and Wine Show
This years Winter Good Food & Wine Show, South Africa’s finest food, beverage and lifestyle exhibition, will treat gourmands and good-life devotees to the most sensational line-up of international celebrity chefs yet – including ‘Mr Hell’s Kitchen’ himself, Gordon Ramsay, who will make his first ever public appearance in South Africa, Master Pâtissier Eric Lanlard, Reza Mahammad with his fresh take on Indian cuisine, Italian supremo Giorgio Locatelli, and chocolate wizard Willie Harcourt-Cooze.
These top chefs will be joined by our finest South African chefs and celebrities in nine state of the art kitchen theatres. You’ll be watching magic, tasting heaven, and learning from the masters of food, wine, gourmet travel and lifestyle.

On Thursday we celebrated our monthly student’s activity with a bang – the Mad Hatters Braai. All seasoned Cape Town students know by now that a “braai” is the South African version of a barbeque which forms an integral part of the South African culture. And so student came dressed to kill in weird and wonderful hats of all shapes and seizes. After enjoying a drink on the IH Deck we all made our way down to the feast. As the evening went on we played who’s who games bringing students and staff together. We were even surprised by our student’s talents as an out-of-the-blue talent show erupted into full swing. There was break dancing, singing, rapping and story telling. All in all another unforgettable IH Cape Town evening – looking forward to the next happening on the 13th of May.
