OKTOBERFEST
Posted on October 21, 2009
The festival follows Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany which takes place from 19 September to 04 October. Oktoberfest started in 1810 when the citizens celebrated the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig to Princess Theresa of Saxony-Hidburghausen. It has since grown into what is claimed to be the world’s largest festival, attracting more that 6 million people each year.
Paulaner brewmaster, Wolfgang Kodel, brews the special Oktoberfest beer annually. To compliment the special beer, Paulaner boasts hearty traditional Bavarian cuisine such as Pretzel, Bratwust and Pork Knuckle.
The festival is very popular among locals and visitors. The Paulaner is situated opposite the Nelson Mandela Gateway and the V&A Clocktower in the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront and is well known for live coverage of major sporting events and for being one of Cape Town’s best live music venues.
